ProtoHabit Free vs Premium

Every premium feature, free for 10 habits — how the limit actually counts, what "Go Unlimited" costs, and how to decide if you ever need it.

  1. Know what free means here

Every premium feature. Free for 10 habits. Goals, sub-goals, insights, streaks, Mojo, profiles, backup — nothing is held back. The only line is how many habits you track.

  2. Understand how the 10 count works

A habit only counts once it has at least one logged activity. Add twenty to experiment — only the ones you actually use touch the limit. Deleting a habit frees its slot.

  3. Go Unlimited if you outgrow 10

Premium removes the cap: unlimited habits. Yearly is $39.99 — about $3.33 a month, marked "SAVE 52%" — or Monthly at $6.99, as shown in the app.

  4. Restore on a new phone

Reinstalled or switched devices? Tap "Restore purchase" on the paywall and your Premium comes back. No account needed.

  5. Or just stay free

The paywall itself offers "Continue free with 10 habits". No trial that expires, no lock-in, no locked doors — ten well-chosen habits is a serious practice.

Most habit apps split their feature list in half and put the good half behind a subscription. ProtoHabit doesn’t. The pitch on the paywall is the whole model: “Every premium feature. Free for 10 habits.” — with “NO TRIAL · NO LOCK-IN” right underneath.

One limit, honestly counted

The only thing Premium buys is room. Free users get every feature — the goal builder, sub-goals, the Breakdown card, full insights, streaks and achievements, the Schedule tab, Mojo, multiple profiles, backup — across up to 10 habits.

And the counting is deliberately generous. A habit doesn’t count against the 10 until it has at least one logged activity, so you can add a batch from the catalog, try them for a day or two, and only the ones you actually log claim a slot. Delete a habit you’ve moved on from and its slot opens up again. The limit measures your active practice, not your experiments.

Ten sounds small until you try to do ten things consistently. Most strong routines are five to eight habits deep — Drink Water, Run, Track expenses, a reading habit, a stretch. If you’re brushing against the cap, that’s usually a sign of real momentum, not a paywall ambush.

What Premium actually is

“Go Unlimited” removes the cap. That’s it — no features appear, because none were missing. Yearly runs $39.99 (about $3.33 a month, and the app marks it “SAVE 52%”); Monthly is $6.99. Since purchases live with your app store account, “Restore purchase” brings Premium back after a reinstall or a new phone.

If you’d rather not decide, don’t. “Continue free with 10 habits” is a first-class button, not a shame link.

The part that doesn’t change either way

Free or Premium, the privacy line at the bottom of the paywall holds: “Your data, your rules. 100% on-device, encrypted, export or delete anytime.” Your habits aren’t the product — the app is. If you’re just getting started, spend your first weeks with the getting-started guide and let the 10-habit question answer itself.
