Streaks & Achievements, Explained

How the "This week" card, active-days streak, Perfect Days, and the 12-badge trophy wall fit together — and why one logged habit keeps a day alive.

  1. Read the "This week" card on Home

It shows Mon–Sun dots, how many habits you've done today out of the total, and your active-days streak. A day counts as active when you log any habit at all — one is enough.

  2. Know what a Perfect Day is

A Perfect Day means every habit got done in a single day. It's the high bar — rare on purpose. Active days are the everyday bar; Perfect Days are the trophy moments.

  3. Check per-habit streaks on detail pages

Tap a habit to see its own STREAK and BEST on the dark stats card. The global streak asks "did you show up?" — per-habit streaks ask "are you consistent at this one?"

  4. Open the trophy wall

Tap the trophy button in the Home header to open Achievements: your TROPHY WALL, LATEST WIN, NEXT UP, and the "Earn these" list. Twelve badges, tiered bronze through diamond.

  5. Protect the streak on bad days

On a day everything goes sideways, log one small habit — Drink Water counts. The active-days streak survives on any logged habit, by design. Confetti waits at 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 days.

Streaks are the oldest trick in habit tracking, and the most abused. Most apps make them all-or-nothing — miss one habit and the whole chain dies. ProtoHabit splits the job in two so a bad day can’t erase a good month.

Two streaks, two questions

The active-days streak on the “This week” card counts consecutive days where you logged at least one habit — any habit. It answers the only question that matters long-term: are you still in the game? Six habits planned, one done on a brutal Tuesday? The streak lives. That’s not a loophole; showing up small on a terrible day is the most underrated skill in the whole practice.

Per-habit streaks live on each habit’s detail page and are the classic chain — consecutive completions of that specific habit. They tell you which habits have gone automatic and which still wobble. A long streak on Run next to a three-day streak on journaling isn’t a failure report; it’s a map of where to focus.

One honest footnote: days filled only by Apple Health auto-tracking don’t count toward streaks. A streak should mean you showed up — not that your phone was in your pocket.

The 12 badges

The Achievements screen tracks twelve badges across tiers from bronze to diamond: Welcome, First Activity, 3-Day Streak, 10 Activities, Perfect Day, 7-Day Streak, 14-Day Streak, 3 Perfect Days, 21-Day Streak, 50 Activities, 30-Day Streak, and 7 Perfect Days. The 21-Day Streak sits at platinum for a reason — research places habit formation somewhere around 18–21 days, so that badge marks the stretch where a habit starts feeling like part of you.

NEXT UP shows you the closest badge, which is quietly useful: when motivation dips, “two more days to 7-Day Streak” is a concrete reason to log tonight.

When a streak breaks

It will, eventually. When it does, remember what a streak actually is: a display of your history, not the history itself. Every entry, chart, and photo you’ve logged is untouched — check your insights if you need proof. Log something today and the count restarts. The first confetti is only a day away.
