Reading Your Habit Insights
What the habit detail page is telling you: the STREAK / BEST / AVERAGE card, Trend and Heatmap views, metric chips, and the tappable Breakdown history.
Open a habit's detail page
Tap any habit card — say Run. The dark stats card up top shows STREAK, BEST, and AVERAGE. Average counts logged days only, so a rest day doesn't drag your numbers down.
Switch between Trend and Heatmap
The "Trend" tab charts your activity over time; "Heatmap" paints a calendar of which days you showed up. Trend answers "how much" — Heatmap answers "how often".
Change the zoom level
Use the Daily / Weekly / Monthly toggle to pick your resolution, and swipe between periods to move through time. Tap any bar to drill into that period.
Flip through the METRIC chips
The chips switch what's being charted — Activity (how many times you logged) versus each attribute you track, like km for Run or glasses for Drink Water. Same habit, different lenses.
Scroll the BREAKDOWN history
Below the charts, the BREAKDOWN list shows your logged history — rows like "Daily · Counts" with entry counts. Every row is tappable, so you can open an old entry and edit or delete it.
Fix the record when it's wrong
Forgot to log Tuesday's run? The log sheet back-dates to any past day. Honest data in, honest insights out — the charts are only as good as the log.
Logging is the input. The habit detail page is the payoff — it turns months of one-tap entries into charts you can actually read. Here’s how to read them.
Three numbers, one dark card
STREAK is your current consecutive run for this habit. BEST is the longest you’ve ever managed. AVERAGE is your typical output — and it only counts days you logged, which matters. If you run three times a week, your average km reflects your actual runs, not a number diluted by four zeros. That’s a kinder and more useful stat: it describes what a session looks like when you show up.
Below the stats sits the Media card — every photo you’ve attached to a log for this habit, in one place. Progress photos live where the progress is.
Trend vs Heatmap — two different questions
Use Trend when the quantity matters: are your runs getting longer, is your water intake climbing, are your tracked expenses shrinking? Toggle Daily, Weekly, or Monthly to smooth out the noise — weekly is usually the sweet spot for spotting direction. Swipe to move between periods, and tap a bar when you want the detail behind it.
Use Heatmap when consistency matters more than volume. A heatmap full of scattered marks says the habit hasn’t found its rhythm yet; solid weekday columns with empty weekends say your routine works Monday to Friday and needs a weekend plan. You can’t see either pattern in a trend line.
One habit, several stories
The METRIC chips are easy to overlook and worth the tap. Activity tells you how often you did the thing; each attribute chip tells you how much. For Run, those can diverge in interesting ways — steady activity with rising km means your sessions are growing; rising activity with flat km means you’re showing up more but going shorter. Both are progress. They just call for different next steps.
Trust the record, and keep it clean
The BREAKDOWN list at the bottom is your audit trail — tap any entry to correct a typo’d number or delete a duplicate. Since you can back-date logs to any past day, a forgotten entry never has to stay forgotten. Clean data is what makes the Breakdown card on your goal pages trustworthy too.
Put it into practice
Open ProtoHabit and try it — this guide will still be here.
